This week’s video comes from the 2006 song “Tear You Apart” by the California based band She Wants Revenge. The video is directed by Joaquin Phoenix and follows two teenagers, Tommy and Lydia, as they go to the high school dance together. The video is shrouded in mystery making brief mentions of local urban legends know as “The Reds”, local students disappearing, and Lydia herself who seems to move towns often with no explanation. As the dance progresses and Tommy and Lydia’s passion’s grow, a curious affair happens that leaves Lydia afraid and alone. I personally think Joaquin Phoenix does a great job with this video, setting up a solid story with interesting characters in such a short amount of time while also leaving enough of the details ambiguous enough to be intriguing.
